SPRING/SUMMER 2012 was a season underpinned by rumours – who was and who wasn’t still in the running for the Dior job? Was Raf Simons stepping into the creative director shoes at YSL? How would a host of new names – including Clare Waight Keller at Chloe and Olivier Rousteing at Balmain – fair for their first outings as creative directors of new houses?
On the catwalk, it was designers’ penchant for all things aquatic that became the prevalent trend. Karl Lagerfeld went for a deep sea dive at Chanel, Givenchy made a splash with mermaid creations,Giorgio Armani went iridescent, pearlescent and shimmery and Mary Katrantzou brought psychedelic sea beds into the mix.
